The Unapologetic Trendsetters: CAPPA

Well would you look at that, something new just hit on S+R! We realized we talk a lot about ourselves and decided it was time to introduce a new blog segment, The Unapologetic Trendsetters. We always say we're here for the people who aren't afraid to kick ass and take names, so why not introduce you to some of the people doing it?

We had the amazing opportunity to shoot and hangout with Carla Cappa of CAPPA. For anyone who doesn't know, she's an indie-pop powerhouse out of Nashville, TN, and we're stoked we could sit down to ask her a few questions...

Give us a run down of what a normal day looks like for you.
I’ve been trying to get up a little earlier; my dog likes to take me for a run sometimes. After that I’ll usually head to the studio or a songwriting session. I’ve been trying to write new music as much as possible. I want to keep getting better. At night I’ll usually either go to a friend's show, have band practice or work on some music stuff online. I’m working on a merch line right now so that’s been taking a lot of my time.

Describe your music in one sentence.
Vibey/fun indie-pop.

Describe your style in one sentence.
A little bit of vintage/90’s with some edge.

Describe your DREAM outfit to us.
Oh wow! Hmm. I’m always on the search for the perfect vintage outfit. Something dark and a little grungy but that looks like it’s one of a kind. Help me find it!! (Don't worry, Cappa...we have the perfect pieces for you!)

Top 5 favorite places to shop and why?
Ohh this is a fun one! I love Live True Vintage (a shop in east Nashville), Topshop, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, and then I like to get some things from Goodwill here and there. Pieces that are really special are my favorite.

If you could trade places with one person for 24 hours who would it be and why?
Man, this is such a hard one. I would love to play an arena show so living a day in the life of someone doing that would be a dream. I’d probably pick Beyonce 'cause...Beyonce.

If you were in a position of high power and you had to have a code name, what would it be?
‘Captain C Dizzle’ because it’d be fun to hear everyone say.

Is that different from what your rap name would be?
If I had a rap name I would HAVE to go with “Popa Cappa” so it kinda sounds like “pop a cap in your a**” People make that joke with me a lot, surprisingly enough. I wish I had come up with it.

Tell us something super embarrassing!
I can never think of anything embarrassing when I need it! I have a bunch of weird phobias though. I have to check my room to make sure nothing is plugged in when I leave like 3 times over.

How can fans find you or listen to your music?
I’m @cappamusic on almost all social media. They can also search CAPPA on iTunes or spotify :)

Anything else you want to say to your fans and followers?
New music is coming SOON! Thanks for supporting me :)
