NYFW DIARY: Day 1 at Yeezy Season 3
YEEZY SEASON 3, Y'ALL. I've had so many people text, call, and e-mail me to ask the same question...what in the world was Season 3 like? Well, it was awesome.
So let's start with the invitations...the physical invite to Kanye's show was a dark green wind breaker with Season 3 written on the back + show details on the arm. The grandiose event was held at Madison Square Garden and started at 4pm. I walked into the arena and found my seat in the fourth row (I was NOT complaining...Ye stuck people up in the two hundred level seats). In the center of the arena was a weird sort of mountain like structure that was covered with a beige tarp. I took my seat and watched Kylie, Kendall, Khloe, Kim (+ North), Kourtney, Kris, and Caitlin find their seats in the front row. Following them was Anna Wintour, Oliver Rousteing, GiGi and Bella Hadid, Karlie Kloss, countless other fashion A-listers...
And finally Yeezy.
The audience applauded and waited for Ye to start one of his famous monologues. He thanked us all for attending and proceeded to let us know that this was going to be more than just a fashion event. Season 3 was going to be shown to his brand new album The Life of Pablo...
"What if Kanye made a song about Kanye /Called ‘I Miss the Old Kanye’ / Man, that would be so Kanye / That’s all it was Kanye / We still love Kanye / And I love you like Kanye loves Kanye."
...and about halfway through the first track the tarp was ripped off of the stage to reveal what looked like at least 300 models, some on the ground + some on platforms.
And that was it.
Seriously, that was it. THE MODELS DID NOT MOVE. About halfway through Naomi Campbell came out in a fur coat, but that was it.
After the show I was able to see some of the pieces close up and picked out my six favorite women's looks (see photos). Additionally, I found out that all the extras on the ground were not wearing Season 3 at all! They weren't even wearing Adidas, they were wearing thrifted pieces that were dyed to match the collection! Now I’m happy to see thrifted clothing being used for good, but I couldn’t help thinking, “well if thrifted clothing can look just as good as Yeezy, why spend the extra money purchasing Season 3 items?”
On the other hand, it was an interesting examination of Kanye as a stylist. One could say the models on the ground were part of Kanye’s styling exhibition and the models on the mountain were part of Kanye’s Yeezy Season 3 exhibition.
Regardless, the album was killer and the (actual) pieces of Season 3 were unreal. My favorite part of the entire experience had to be either seeing Kylie's Balmain x Season 3 dress up close or having Kanye promise to sell more of his oh-so-famous boost 350/750s.
I decided to keep it real for the show and wore a copper TopShop bomber over a distressed Helmut Lang tunic + Blank NYC leather pants. I topped it off with an oversized gray tailored jacket and gray Donald J Pliner boots.
The whole experience was out of this world and I'm definitely looking forward to wearing and sharing some Season 3 with all of you this year!
I hope that answers some questions on how Season 3 went down! Feel free to connect with me if there's anything else you guys want to know.
All the best,
Morgan xoxo S+R
